Erosion & Sediment Control
When preparing a Civil Engineering & Land Development project, it is important that land disturbance is contained as much as possible, and that all of the land and property surrounding the land disturbance area is protected. Without this protection, neighboring properties and areas of your property outside of the construction zone may be damaged by erosion and/or polluted by soil and debris that is carried by stormwater runoff from the construction area.
This protection is provided in the form of Erosion and Sediment Control measures, including, but not limited to:
- silt fence or compost filter sock, which are barriers that are placed along the edge of, and down-slope of, a construction area to stop soil and debris from being carried out of the construction area by stormwater runoff;
- tree and construction protection fencing, which marks the boundaries of a construction area, thereby containing land disturbance and preventing damage by construction equipment to existing trees and vegetation outside of the construction area;
- ballast stone construction entrances, which help to clean mud and debris from construction equipment as it leaves the construction area, to help keep roadways and areas outside of the construction area as clean as possible;
- erosion control blankets, which are mats of natural materials like straw that are placed on slopes to prevent the soil from eroding and washing away; and
- temporary sediment basins, which are designed to collect stormwater runoff and allow soil, sediment, and debris to settle so that it is removed from the stormwater before it drains from the construction area.
Erosion and Sediment Control measures are designed to meet project-specific Municipal, County, State, & Federal Code & Permitting requirements.
